Requirements for Biorhythms and the Time of Your Life Designing Biorhythms and the Time of Your Life initiating the program. The worksheet is preformatted to make the data presentable. The scatter chart contains six different data series that include the three static curves (column A has the x-values and columns B through D the y-values) and the values for the current status of the user's biorhythms (not visible until the program has been run). I will enter the VBA program within the Click() event procedure of the Command Button control on the worksheet so the user can initiate it with a simple mouse click. Figure 2.10 shows the Biorhythms and the Time of Your Life spreadsheet prior to executing the program. The Biorhythms and the Time of Your Life spreadsheet. The Biorhythms and the Time of Your Life spreadsheet. Coding Biorhythms and the Time of Your Life I have entered the following code to the object module for the Biorhythms and the Time of Your Life worksheet shown in Figure...
The Biorhythms and the Time of Your Life program (see Figure 2.1) begins by asking for the user's name and birth date. The program then calculates the length of the user's life in years, months, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Following the user input, the user's name, birth date, and age (in the aforementioned units) are displayed in the worksheet. The worksheet also contains an embedded chart that displays the current state of the user's three biorhythm cycles (physical, emotional, and intellectual). I suppose right about now you're wondering how any of the tools in this chapter will make your life easier. I'm working up to that. For now, just being aware of the various panes and windows in the VBA is a good start. Knowing that VBA works by manipulating objects in object libraries is a good thing too. Even just being aware that the Object Browser and Help windows exist will be valuable as you start writing code.
Recall that the username and password prompt only appear once per Access session. This happens when you take certain actions such as opening a database or attempting to maintain security. This establishes your identity to the MDW file you are joined to at that time. If you use the wrong MDW file when you identify yourself to Access, you may not be prompted for a username and password. If you are not prompted, the Admin user password has not been set to activate the MDW file, so you become the Admin user by default. If you are prompted, the identity you establish will not be the same. Recall that your identity gets you access to a set of pass codes. These pass codes are a combination of the MDW file authentication information plus the username and PID or the MDW file authentication information plus the group name and GID. With the wrong pass codes, you will not be able to get the permissions the remote database has granted you.
Consideration of where the validation code should go and when it should run is easy with the InputBox() function. The validation should occur as soon as the user enters data. The best way to determine this is to put the InputBox() function inside a Do-Loop. In the Biorhythms and Time of Your Life project in Chapter 2, user validation could be added as follows
I'll touch on this subject again in Chapter 13, and by then, you'll have written enough code to be able to experiment with the settings and better appreciate why this feature can be so useful. If for nothing else, you can use this feature to add a little color to your life.

Typical Excel users get by just fine with the standard menus. Because you're reading this book, however, you're probably not the typical Excel user. You might want to modify menus to make your life easier and to make life easier for the folks who use the spreadsheets that you develop.
VBA for the 2007 Microsoft Office System is designed to give you the information you need without making you wade through ponderous explanations and interminable technical background. To make your life easier, this book includes various features and conventions that help you get the most out of the book and VBA itself.
If the module you open contains any VBA code, that code is visible in the editor Code window, also shown in Figure 1-6. A class module might contain VBA code even if you never wrote a line of VBA code in your life because some of the control wizards in the form and report Design views automatically write VBA code for you behind the scenes. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Code reuse makes your life as a programmer much easier and more enjoyable. It is an easy concept to grasp and is really more applied than theoretical. In the world of VBA, code reusability is implemented as subprocedures and function procedures. Programmers create user-defined procedures for problems that need frequently used solutions.
