Creating and Registering the Form Region Manifest

You need to create a form region manifest file and register it in the registry. Let's look at how to do this.

1. To add a form region manifest to your project, click Project, and then in the main menu click Add New Item.

2. In the Templates pane of the Add New Item dialog box, select XML File.

3. Name the new item MySimpleFormRegionManifest.xml, and add the XML in Listing 14.33 to the MySimpleFormRegionManifest.xml file you just added.

4. On the Project menu, click SimpleFormRegion Properties.

5. Click the Resources tab, and select Files from the first drop-down menu in the Resources pane.

6. Drag and drop the MySimpleFormRegionManifest.xml file from Solution Explorer into the Resources pane to embed the file as a resource. You will see the MySimpleFormRegionManifest file in the resources pane.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <FormRegion xmlns=

"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/outlook/12/formregion.xsd"> <name>MySimpleFormRegion</name> <title>My Simple Form Region</title> <formRegionType>adjoining</formRegionType> <showCompose>true</showCompose> <showRead>true</showRead> <showPreview>false</showPreview> <hidden>false</hidden> <addin>SimpleFormRegion</addin> <version>1.0</version> </FormRegion>

This form region will adjoin the Outlook form, as indicated in Listing 14.33 in the formRegionType node.
