HandsOn Exporting an Access Table to an XML File

1. Use Windows Explorer to create a new folder named Learn_XML for this chapter's practice files.

2. Open the sample Northwind database that comes with Access.

3. In the Northwind database window, select Tables in the Objects bar, highlight the Shippers table, and choose File | Export.

4. In the Save in drop-down list in the Export Table window, switch to the Learn_XML folder that you created in step 1 above. In the Save as type drop-down list, select XML. Access will enter Shippers into the File name drop-down list. Having specified the file format and its destination, click Export (see Figure 29-1).

In the Export XML dialog box that appears, two check boxes — Data (XML) and Schema of the data (XSD) — are already selected (see Figure 29-2). These options will create two files: an XML file that will contain the data from the Shippers table and an XSD file that will contain the definition of the data.

5. Select the Presentation of your data (XSL) check box to tell Access to generate HTML and XSL files for presentation of the data in the web browser. With all three check boxes selected in the Export XML dialog box, click OK to proceed with the export.
