Understanding the Properties Window

The Properties window allows you to review and set properties of various objects in your project. The name of the currently selected object is displayed in the Object box located just below the Properties window's title bar. Properties of the object can be viewed alphabetically or by category by clicking on the appropriate tab (Figure 1-19).

■ Alphabetic Tab—Alphabetically lists all properties for the selected object. You can change the property setting by selecting the property name and typing or selecting the new setting.

■ Categorized Tab—Lists all properties for the selected object by category. You can collapse the list so that you see the categories, or you can expand a category to see the properties. The plus (+) icon to the left of the category name indicates that the category list can be expanded. The minus (-) indicates that the category is currently expanded.

The Properties window can be accessed in three ways:

■ From the View menu by selecting Properties Window

■ From the keyboard by pressing F4

■ From the toolbar by clicking the Properties Window button (see Figure 1-18)
